How to convert PDF to JPG
- Choose a PDF, or try the sample. Your file is read locally in this browser.
- Select the pages you need. Start with Balanced, use Smaller file for sharing, or choose More detail for close inspection.
- Convert and check the JPG at 100% zoom. Each result shows its actual pixel dimensions and file size. Save individual images or prepare a ZIP.
- For a longer PDF, save the current batch, then select the next unconverted batch. You can process up to 50 pages at a time.
Choose JPG quality for your task
JPG works well for photographs, scanned pages, and services that accept images instead of documents. It uses lossy compression: reducing quality can save space but may add artifacts around small text and sharp edges. A higher quality setting cannot repair a blurry source scan.
- Smaller file — 96 DPI, 75% quality: a starting point for quick previews and email attachments. Check small text before sharing.
- Balanced — 150 DPI, 90% quality: a starting point for readable documents and everyday use.
- More detail — 300 DPI, 95% quality: more pixels for fine print and close inspection, with greater memory and storage needs.
Quality percentages are encoder settings, not a percentage of original detail retained. File size depends on page content, dimensions, and the browser's JPEG encoder. To check an upload limit, convert one representative page first and look at its actual size; there is no guaranteed KB target.
Resolution and white backgrounds
DPI controls how many pixels are rendered. For example, a US Letter page at 150 DPI becomes 1,275 × 1,650 pixels; at 300 DPI it becomes 2,550 × 3,300 pixels. The converter estimates dimensions from your selected PDF page before rendering. Larger pages and higher DPI may reach the device's canvas limit.
JPG cannot store transparency. Unpainted PDF areas use a white background, which keeps ordinary document pages readable. If you need transparency or lossless image compression for diagrams, use PDF to PNG. For other output formats, visit the PDF to image converter.
PDF to JPG questions
Are JPG and JPEG the same format?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are two filename extensions for the same image format. This tool creates JPEG images with a .jpg extension; you do not need a separate PDF to JPEG converter.
Can I convert a 500-page PDF?
You can open one PDF up to 150 MB and 500 pages. Convert separate images in batches of up to 50 pages, then save the images or ZIP before continuing. The next-batch control selects pages not yet converted in this session. Previous download links are replaced when a new conversion starts. Counts track conversion, not whether you saved the files; changing output settings resets the counts.
Can several pages become one JPG?
Yes. Choose One long image to stack up to 5 selected pages vertically. The combined image is limited to 16 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per side. Lower the DPI or choose fewer pages if it is too large.
How can I make a JPG smaller?
Choose Smaller file, lower the JPG quality, or lower the DPI. Convert one page and inspect the result before processing the rest. ZIP groups the files for downloading; it does not significantly shrink images that are already JPEG-compressed. A batch also has a 120 MB output limit.
Does this extract the original photos from a PDF?
No. Each JPG is a rendered image of the entire selected page, including its text and graphics. To retrieve supported original embedded JPEG images without rendering the page, use Extract images from PDF.
Will text remain selectable or editable?
No. The page becomes pixels. Links, selectable text, and document structure are not preserved, and this converter does not perform OCR. Keep your original PDF when you need searchable text.
Is it free, and is my PDF uploaded?
Conversion runs locally in your browser, without an account, watermark, or file upload. Very large or complex pages can exceed available memory even within the file limits. Password-protected files must be opened or unlocked before use.
Can I turn the JPG images back into a PDF?
Use JPG to PDF to combine images into a document, or Images to PDF for larger image batches and folder or ZIP imports. This does not restore the original selectable text, vectors, or links.
